Hello again :)

Welcome to my personal blog!

After many years of blogging abstinence I want to try to reboot my home in the web. It will serve as a central place for my blog, personal information and a hub to my projects. Not that there are to many of it lately, as my professional and family live keeps me very busy - I am afraid.

Looking back

I started BLOGGING many years ago around 2002. At first with a self developed PHP blog engine and later on I moved to employ Serendipity and Known when the semantic web took off.

Then social networks happened and I stopped blogging for a while long time.

My TWITTER account will be 15 years old in July (created in 2008) but it is dead for some time. You know .. Elon happened and anyways I always have been more active on the federated side of things.

My first FEDIVERSE account was created around 2010 on identi.ca. Since then I moved several times and when identi.ca finally pulled the plug it was time to switch to a self hosted fediverse instance.

As I did most of my development work in Elixir at that time it was natural to chose Pleroma for that and so The Habitat was born. It is a small private instance. Just me, my wife and a small number of friends. If you are interested to join, just send me a message!

That said, let’s wrap up and see what the future will bring.

What to expect from this site?

Most of the time I will drop my thoughts right into my Fediverse account. But sometimes a thought needs a little more room or I want it to be preserved for the future. So this will be the place for articles that do not fit the length limitations or content that qualifies for more longevity.

My interests have not changed much. I am still a tech guy interested in computer science and futurism with now more than 20 years of experience in the industry. I started as a script kiddie, moved on to be trained as a sysadmin, switched to being a professional software developer and now work as a CTO in the field of Daily Fantasy Sports.
Being a CTO combines all the aforementioned skills and adds some requirements on top. I am still learning a ton of things in this role every day.
This is also what I am always aiming for. A day without learning something new is a waste of computation time.

If I do not learn anything new at work, granted I will learn something from raising two great boys. In 2013 we settled near Dortmund (Germany) and built a house. In 2015 my first son was born, in 2018 my second. We are a very outdoorsy family and love to go on adventures as much as possible.

Besides that I love photography, cycling and woodworking.

I do not expect to see much content of the like on this blog, but hopefully I will find some time to start another blog that will focus on minimalism, simple living, sustainability and living a good live in general in another place.

Thats all for today. Hope to see you again and thanks for reading!
